Scope and content
With the objective of encouraging young poets, the Col. John McCrae Birthplace Society has conducted a verse writing contest among Grade 8 students in all schools of the Wellington County. It is known as the McCrae Medal Competition, and it attracted excellent participation. First prize in the 1975 McCrae Medal Competition was awarded to Shelly Ives, a student at Elora Senior Public School. She is pictured, left, with her prize bronze medal honoring Col. John McCrae. Pictured on the right is second place winner in the contest, Janet Bulmer, a student at College Avenue Public School.
