The York Pioneer and Historical Society was formed with the purpose of encouraging historic preservation in York County, Ontario, which then included the Toronto area.

Scope and content
Fonds consists of correspondence, minutes, and cash book of the York Pioneer and Historial Society, as well as scrapbooks and newspaper clippings compiled by the society. Fonds also includes 6 photographs depicting Toronto scenes of the Yonge Street toll gate, the Yonge Street wharf, the old Parliament buildings, Yonge Street on Pretoria Day, and Yonge and King and Adelaide and Bay Streets. Fonds is arranged into the following series: Correspondence, 1944-1969 (Series I) Minute Books, Cash Book, 1904-1969, 1970-1976 (Series II) Scrapbooks (Series III) Newspaper Clippings (Series IV) Minutes, 1983-1987 (Series F 1143-2).
