    Administrative history

In 1943, Women's College Hospital established a dermatology program under the Department of Medicine. Dr. Ricky Kanee Schachter was appointed Head of the newly-formed Division of Dermatology (1943-1985). Under her leadership, the dermatology program at Women’s College Hospital grew into the largest and most diverse in Toronto.

Dr. Schachter was succeeded by Dr. Colin Ramsay (1986-1990), Dr. Gary Sibbald (1991-1993), and Dr. Lynn From (1993-2000). During the amalgamation of Women's College Hospital and Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Dr. Neil Shear served as Head of Dermatology. Dr. Christian Murray served as Interim Head of Dermatology. In 2017, Dr. Vincent Piguet was appointed Head of Dermatology.

The Division of Dermatology at Women's College Hospital runs four main programs: the Mohs Centre; the Wound Care Centre; the Phototherapy Education and Research Centre; and the Ricky Kanee Schachter Dermatology Centre, which itself operates a number of clinics including Ontario's first Multicultural Dermatology Clinic.
