        The Department of Medicine at Women's College Hospital was established in 1920. The Department of Medicine encompasses a wide array of divisions, including: cardiology, dermatology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, neurology, respirology, and rheumatology.

        Dr. Ida Lynd was appointed as the first Chief of Medicine (1920-1926). She was succeeded by Dr. Ethel M. Hayes (1926-1931), Dr. Florence McConney (1935-1950), Dr. Jean Davey (1950-1965), Dr. F. Marguerite Hill (1965-1984), Dr. Kenneth Shumak (1984-1990), Dr. Sheldon Mintz (1990-1991), and Dr. Anna Day (1991-1999).

        Following the de-amalgamation of Women's College Hospital and Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Dr. Gillian Hawker was appointed Chief of Medicine at Women's College Hospital (2006-2014). In 2014, Dr. Paula Harvey became the Interim Chief of Medicine.
