George Brogdin (abt. 1831-1868) was a lawyer in Port Hope, ON. He was born to William Brogdin and Elizabeth Wallace around 1831. He was one of six children, including: William Jr., Robert, Alice, Maria and Jane. George was sworn in as a solicitor on 8 Jun 1852, and worked as part of the firm Weller & Brogdin, and lived on Augusta Street, Port Hope. He married Matilda Sophia Hornby on 2 Feb 1854, and the pair had one son, George M. Brogdin (1855-1856). It is known that Mr. Brogdin was involved in a murder and love triangle scandal involving his wife, Matilda, and a childhood acquaintance, T. Henderson in 1856. After the death of Mr. Henderson, the following verdict was presented by the jury during Mr. Brogdin's trial: “We, the undersigned jury men, empanelled to enquire how and by what means Thomas Henderson, deceased, came by his death, on our oaths, do find the said deceased came to his death by means of a bullet discharged from a pistol in the hand of George Brogdin; and we do further find that said George Brogdin committed such act under great and justifiable provocation, and would express the strongest reprobation of that course of licentious-ness on the part of the deceased, which produced such a fearful retaliation.” George Brogdin died on 5 Feb 1861.
