        George Washington Wilson (1823-1893) was a well known photographer who studied in Edinburgh, London and Paris. He operated a photo studio in Edinburgh beginning in 1853, and by the 1880s his company was one of the largest and best known photographic publishers in the world. The collection is inscribed “To dear Mrs. Charles Stuart with fondest regards from Lenzie.” Mrs. Stuart was the wife of Hudson Bay Company fur trader/banker Charles Stuart (1820-1907). Their daughter Josephine married Albert Grant, son of John Grant, gamekeeper at Balmoral.
