Biographical history

William Lynn Smart (fl. 1850-1874) was born in England. His father, John Smart, practiced law in London, England. William and his brothers Robert Williamson Hunt Smart (fl. 1847-1854) and Newton Reginald Smart (1831-1897) all clerked in their father's law office. In 1853, William Lynn Smart moved to Ontario. He was admitted as a student-at-law by the Law Society of Upper Canada in 1864, and was called to the Bar in 1867. Smart became a notary public in 1871 and served as a Deputy Judge in Wentworth County, a position he held until 1874.

Fonds consists of legal documents and addresses relating to the legal career of William Lynn Smart. The fonds also contains one document that relates to Robert Williamson Hunt Smart, an attorney in England and the brother of William Lynn Smart.
