Michael Whitby (1954- ) is the Chief of the Naval History Team at the Directorate of History and Heritage, National Defence Headquarters (NDHQ), Ottawa, responsible for producing the three-volume Official History of the Royal Canadian Navy, 1867-1968. As well as being co-author of the forthcoming volume on the RCN in the Second World War, he has co-authored two histories on Canada's experience in the European theatre during the Second World War. He has co-edited a technical history of Canadian naval aviation and written several articles on navy history for international journals. Whitby has also served as a speech writer and policy analyst at NDHQ.
