History
Thomas Leonard Wells (1930-2000) was a Progressive Conservative politician and a Cabinet Minister in the government of Ontario Premier William Davis.
Wells was born in Toronto, Ontario and attended Toronto's Malvern Collegiate Institute as well as the University of Toronto. He served as Trustee of the Scarborough Board of Education and was a Representative for Scarborough on the Metro School Board in 1962 and 1963.
In 1963 Wells was elected as a Progressive Conservative to the Ontario Legislature for the riding of Scarborough North, and held his seat until 1985. During this time Wells held a number of cabinet positions, including Minister Without Portfolio (1966-1969), Minister of Health (1969- 1971), Minister of Social and family Services (1971-1972), Minister of Education (1972-1978), Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs (1978- 1980), Government House Leader (1979- 1985). After leaving the Ontario Legislature, Wells acted as the Agent General for Ontario in the United Kingdom from 1985-1991.
In 1954 Wells married Audrey Alice Richardson, the daughter of Arthur C. Richardson. They had three children.
