Biografie
William Alexander Binny Douglas (1929- ) was Senior Historian and Director-General of the Directorate of History, and an author on naval and aviation history. Born in Southern Rhodesia, he was educated in England and Canada, and spent 1940-1943 in Canada as a war guest. He returned to Canada in1947 and attended the University of Toronto, graduating in 1951 with a B.A. in Modern History. He also joined the University Naval Training Division in 1947, and transferred to the Royal Canadian Navy in 1950. After serving on many ships between 1954 and 1964, he was appointed to the Royal Military College in Kingston as the Naval Staff Officer and an Associate Professor in Military Studies. He was posted to Canadian Forces Headquarters (CFHQ) in 1967 as an historian on the staff of the Directorate of History, was promoted Commander and appointed Senior Historian in 1970, and was appointed Director of History in 1973. With his M.A. from Dalhousie University, Halifax, and Ph.D from Queen's University, Kingston, he has published articles on naval and aviation history in Canada, England and the United States. Douglas retired as Director General in 1994.

Roger Flynn Sarty (1952-) was the Chief of the Naval History Team at the D-Hist (later renamed the Directorate of History and Heritage), National Defence Headquarters (NDHQ), Ottawa from 1988 to 1998. Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, he received his BA in History in 1975 from the University of Toronto. He continued his graduate and postgraduate studies in History, obtaining his MA from Duke University in 1976 and his Ph. D from the University of Toronto in 1982. A specialist in military history, he is the author of 'The Maritime Defence of Canada', 'Canada and the Battle of the Atlantic' and co-author of 'Tin Pots and Private Ships: Canadian Naval Forces and German Sea Raiders, 1880-1919, 'A Country of Limitations: Canada and the World in 1939', and 'Guardian of the Gulf: Sydney, Cape Breton and the Atlantic Wars'

Michael Whitby (1954-) est le chef de l’équipe de l'histoire navale à la Direction – Histoire et patrimoine et responsable de la publication des trois volumes de l’Histoire officielle de la Marine royale canadienne (MRC), 1867-1968. Il est le co-auteur du volume 2, partie 1 de cette série, la partie sur la MRC pendant la Deuxième Guerre mondiale. De plus, il a co-écrit deux livres sur l’expérience canadienne lors de la Deuxième Guerre mondiale. Il a co-édité un historique technique de l’aéronavale canadienne et publié plusieurs articles sur l’histoire navale dans des revues internationales. M. Whitby a aussi servi en tant que rédacteur sénior des allocutions et analyste des politiques au QGDN.
