Custodial history

Most of the videos were acquired prior to 1989 and were dealt with as an artificial collection as opposed to being organized by provenance. As a result, and due to the lack of complete accession records, provenance is often unknown. As the videos were acquired, they were given a collection number (35) and a sequential item number (001, 002, etc.).

Scope and content

The Video Collection, C 26, is arranged and described at the item level. This collection consists of 356 analog video recordings shot in various video formats. The formats included ¾", ½" VHS, and Betacam videotape cassettes.
The collection documents the annual Canadian National Exhibition during the years 1981 to 1991. It also includes some non-CNE-period videos pertaining to the upkeep and development of Exhibition Place, and the off-season use of the grounds.
The videos focus primarily on the annual Canadian National Exhibition and its events. The themes of these videos are crowds on the midway, midway rides, the Canadian International Air Show, international pavilions, sporting events, and the Rising Star competitions.
Other non-CNE events shown in these videos include the Canadian Hardware Show, Toronto Ski Show, International Food and Wine Expo, and the Boat Show.
