Administrative history

In 1947, the Vice Chiefs of Staff Committee was created to take the load off the Chiefs of Staff Committee for more routine matters which could be delegated. It also advised the Chiefs of Staff on Service aspects of strategic appreciations and military plans. It was formed of the Vice Chiefs including the Vice Chairman of the Defence Research Board. In July 1964, the Vice Chiefs of Staff Committee was abolished.
