    Description area

Leddy Library's Special Collections were created in the 1970s to better preserve our rare books and a small number of manuscript collections. In 1980-81 we began deliberate archival acquisition, with a focus on the history of Southwestern Ontario; in 1994 we began preserving the institutional history of the University of Windsor. We maintain that three-pronged mandate today, preserving and making accessible community and university archival records, as well as rare and locally-significant published works.

    Geographical and cultural context

Archival collections focus on Southwestern Ontario, specifically Windsor/Essex County, Chatham-Kent, and (to a lesser extent) Sarnia/Lambton County, and reflect the social, cultural, military, economic, and land-use history of this region.

Published collections reflect a wide array of subjects, but also include a significant number of locally-relevant works.
