The School of Translators and Interpreters is established in 1971 within the Faculty of Arts. However, in 1936, the University of Ottawa becomes the first Canadian university to offer translation courses. The School of Translators and Interpreters changes its name to School of Translation and Interpretation in 1994. The academic unit teaches professional translation as it is currently practiced in government and business in Canada. Courses cover not only translation, but also documentary research, professional writing, terminology and lexicology applications of computers to translation and theoretical aspects of translation. In addition, the School offers graduate programs such as the M.A. in Translation, Graduate Diploma in Conference in Interpretation and Ph. D. in Translation Studies.

Portée et contenu
The fonds contain files which document the activities of the Scholl of Translation and Interpretation. It includes School Council minutes (1973-1992), Departmental Assembly minutes (1993-1999), Executive Committee minutes (1990-1992), annual reports (1973-1974, 1989-2004), a student guidebook (1975-1977), memorandums (1991, 1997) and correspondence. It also includes Newsletters of the School (1973-1987) and miscellaneous publications.
