In 1930, professors in the Faculties of Philosophy and Theology create the Revue de l'Université d'Ottawa (later known in English as the University of Ottawa Quarterly) as a means to encourage scientific publication. In1936, a new body, the University of Ottawa Press (UOP), is created to help professors publish their research work. Father Raoul Leblanc, O.M.I., is its first director. The Press' French name changes in 1987. The Press reports to the Vice-rector (Academic). In 1991, the University changes the status, the structure and the financing of the UOP, in the process; the University makes an agreement with Gaetan Morin Éditeur Ltée to create a new venture, the University of Ottawa Press Inc. The Press has an editorial board, composed of members of the teaching staff that oversees the general direction and the editorial policy of the UOP; it also selects manuscripts to be published.

Scope and content
The fonds contain files which document the functions of the University of Ottawa Press Inc (UOP). It consists mainly of the publications of the UOP (1931-2009), including a complete set of the University of Ottawa Quarterly (1931-1987). It also includes minutes of: the Council Committee (1986-1988), Editors Board (1983-1985), the Publication Committee (1986-1992), annual reports (1957-1963, 1967-1968, 1972-1973, 1985-1988, 1991-1997), financial statements (1986-1992), publications' catalogues (1936-1996, 2005, 2008), and agreements with authors. The fonds contain one cassette and one videocassette.
