Administrative history
The Faculty of Law is created in 1953. A graduate programme is introduced in 1957. Prior to 1958, only civil law courses were offered at the University, since Osgoode Hall has the teaching monopoly of Common Law in Ontario. In 1958, with the introduction of Common Law courses, the Faculty creates two sections, one Section de droit civil and a Common Law Section. The Section de droit civil has its own Dean since 1962. Nowadays, students can enroll in a number of programmes in addition to the LL.L: a special LL.L-LL.B programme, a Masters in Law, a Diploma Specialized in Legal Studies and a Doctorate.
