        Medical Affairs provides support for the hospital’s Medical Advisory Committee (MAC), Medical Department Heads, and the President and Chief Executive Officer, related to medical staffing, medical practice, and medical quality of care, to ensure that medical services are managed effectively.

        Specific services include:

        • Providing support to the Medical Advisory Committee in carrying out its Terms of reference
        • Providing support to the chiefs of Medical Departments on issues related to fulfillment of their responsibilities.
        • Promoting the development, implementation, and evaluation of standards of medical practice in association with the Chiefs of Medical Departments.
        • Providing support for the process of recruitment of physicians to medical leadership positions in accordance with the University Affiliation Agreement.
        • Providing support for the process of annual and five-year reviews of Medical Department Head performance.
        • Ensuring the development of a Medical Human Resources plan and the establishment of processes to ensure that recruitment is consistent with this plan and incorporates an impact analysis.
        • Providing support for the development of alternative funding plans (AFPs) for physicians.
        • Undertaking quality management and risk management initiatives as appropriate on issues related to medical practice.

        The position of VP Medical Affairs (later Medical Affairs & Quality) has been held by Dr. John Wright (2000-[2008] and Dr. Charles Chan ([2009]- ).
