Institutionele geschiedenis
The Board of Publication was constituted at the General Council of 1926, but this collection contains records that relate to the earliest years of publishing in the Methodist Churches--Methodist Episcopal Church in Canada, 1828-1833, Wesleyan Methodist Church in Canada, Methodist Church of Canada, and Methodist Church (Canada). From 1829 with the publication of the Christian Guardian under Egerton Ryerson, the Wesleyan Methodists were active in religious and educational publishing, and after the mid-century expanded their publishing to include Canadian literature. The Ryerson Press imprint, officially adopted in 1919, was the trade name used until the Press was sold in 1971. The Board of Publication carried on the publishing work of the United Church and was dissolved in 1968 with the establishment of the Division of Communication.
