Custodial history

Compiled by Miss Agnes Hepburn, Tweedsmuir Curator (1929-1957). Given to the Elgin East District Women's Institute by Miss Irene H. McBride, her niece, September 1972. Restored by Mrs. Gordon Lemon. Voted by the District W.I. Board to be placed in Elgin County Library for safekeeping in 1977. Transferred to the Elgin County Archives from the Port Stanley Library in November 2012.

Scope and content

Series consists of the Tweedsmuir History of the Port Stanley Women's Institute. As curator, Miss Agnes Hepburn sought out images from the late nineteenth century to illustrate the varied activities of this port town. From the popular beach and holiday destination to the shipping and fishing industry, the Port Stanley Women's Institute Tweedsmuir History represents the activities that were once daily occurrences.
