The Toronto Horticultural Society was formed in 1895 to encourage improvement in horticulture through exhibitions (particularly at the Canadian National Exhibition), to give awards for vegetables, plants, flowers, fruits, trees and shrubs, and the distribution of seeds.

Fonds consists of records of the Toronto Horticultural Society, including lists of officers and directors, minutes of annual general meetings (1955-1960 only), a cash book detailing expenditures and receipts, some newsletters of the Ontario Horticultural Association, copies of the constitution and by- laws, a published yearbook for 1912, and a photograph of a Society display at the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto.
