Administrative history
The Toronto Advisory Committee for the Co-Operation in Girls’ Work was active as early as 1919. Shortly after the Committee became the Toronto Girls’ Work Board attached to the Toronto Religious Education Council. The Toronto Girls’ Work Board gained much of the responsibility for C.G.I.T. Conferences, camps and leadership training in the Toronto area. The Toronto Girls’ Work Board was able to exercise this responsibility more easily after it developed Ryde Lake Camp, acquired in 1951.
The Toronto Girls’ Work Board made important organizational changed in the 1960 and early 1970s. Its name changed to the Girls’ Work Committee after the Toronto Religious Education Council became the Christian Education Council of Metropolitan Toronto in 1961. In 1967 the name of the Committee changed to the Toronto C.G.I.T. Committee, and a few years later to the Toronto C.G.I.T. Board.
