Dear Father Mother & Sister,
I resume by the time this reaches you Orley will be home to spend a few days with you. I only wish that this war was over and that we were able to get back. This war certainly is getting on my nerves + if it does not end soon I really do not know what my nerves will be. If I could only be back amongst the boys I might feel more at home but here I am amongst strangers trying to find something to take up my time. However I have landed

something which has kept me going most of my time for past week and half. I got into the mess tent and have things pretty well my own way. Have responsibility of feeding the men. Have in all at present time about 175. In morning we give them bread, butter, porridge and tea. Dinner – stew four times week + roast three times with potatoes on Sunday, rice, soup + occasionally parsnips or onions. Supper – bread butter jam + tea. We can feed them all in half to three quarters of an hour. Have two + half sittings. Ten tables in mess. Yesterday I started on a new treatment for scabies. We first have a steam bath which certainly makes
