    Biographical history

    Thomas Patrick Murray (b. 1880) was the president of Murray Brothers Lumber Company near Barry's Bay, Ontario and was a Liberal Member of Provincial Parliament for the riding of Renfrew South from 1929-1945.

    Murray was born in Barry's Bay, Ontario, and married Hannah Kiely in 1910, the couple subsequently having nine children. Murray first was elected as a Liberal MPP in 1929, and was re-elected in 1937 and 1939. He remained in office until 1945.

    Scope and content

    Fonds consists of personal and business records created and received by Thomas Patrick Murray. The records related to the Murray Brothers Lumber Company and to Murray's political career. Records include correspondence, accounts, inventories and poetry. Fonds also includes a photocopy of hand-written notes of Murray's recollections of life in Renfrew County, as well as of his political career. The interviews were conducted in 1980 by Murray's grandson, Sean Conway, MPP.

    Immediate source of acquisition

    The bulk of the fonds was donated to the Archives of Ontario by Mrs. Daniel Murray of Barry's Bay, Ontario in 1982. A photocopy of Murray's reminiscences was donated by Mr. Sean Conway in 1988.
