General note
Thomas John Ryan was born June 1, 1859 in Normandy, (County Grey) Ontario to William H. Ryan and Esther Ryan. He married Dr. Helen Elizabeth Reynolds, M.D. (1860-1947, Parents John and Margaret Reynolds, first female doctor in Northern Ontario) September 10, 1890 in Mount Forest, (County of Wellington), Ontario. Ryan moved to what is now the Sudbury area when it was a railway camp. He became the clerk for the law court and also served as the Town Clerk, Treasurer, Justice of the Peace, Crown Lands Agent, Insurance Broker, General Conveyancer and, from 1899 to 1901, Mayor of Sudbury. In 1905, the Ryan family moved to British Columbia. Thomas Ryan passed away May 23, 1921 in Victoria, British Columbia, at the age of 62.
