    Administrative history

Greermount (Thorne) began in 1861 as an outstation in the Mission of Clarendon. Until 1884, services were held in a schoolhouse. Construction of the stone church began in 1883 and on August 18, 1886, St. Stephen's was opened for worship. Greermount was named after the Rev. A.J. Greer who supervised the building of the church and after the mountain from which the stones were quarried. St. Stephen's was consecrated in 1894 and since 1971, services have been held in St. Stephen's Church only in the summer months. The 100th anniversary of St. Stephen's consecration was celebrated in 1994. Greermount is in the parish of Clarendon.
