Administrative history
St. Peter's Anglican Church is located in Brockville, within the Diocese of Ontario. It was founded as the Brockville mission in 1833.
Custodial history
This volume was donated to the Archives of Ontario by Bruce Elliott, Ottawa, who purchased it at an auction sale dispersing the papers of 19th century biographer and civil servant H. J. Morgan, and his son, H. R. Morgan, editor of the Brockville Recorder. It has been surmised that the volume was acquired by H. R. Morgan, who collected local history material from the area. It is also possible that it was given to his father, Henry J. Morgan who was responsible for state records of the federal government.
Scope and content
This volume is the accounts book kept by Reverend Edward Denroche for St. Peter's Anglican Church in Brockville. The left-hand pages of the volume itemize the date and amount of offerings received in the Church; the right-hand pages itemize amounts given to the poor, including names and details, such as "to blind Foster to pay for a cord of wood" - and "to French Mary". Many of the entries were made during a cholera epidemic, and record assistance to victims and to others such as runaway slaves.
