Administrative history
The congregation at Hazeldean (later Kanata) dates to 1845 and originally worshiped in the Union Church, Bell's Corners. St. Paul's Church was built in 1874 on land donated by James and Alice Mulligan and opening services were held on February 22, 1874. St. Paul's, Hazeldean was consecrated on October 11, 1879 by Bishop J. Travers Lewis. The church was rededicated by Bishop John Charles Roper on May 16, 1930 after restoration, redecoration, and the erection of the chancel arch. St. Paul's was destroyed by fire on October 20, 1935 though some of the furnishing were saved. Services were held in the Community Hall until the church could be rebuilt. The cornerstone for the new stone St. Paul's was laid on August 22, 1937 and the opening service was held on October 10th that year. Bishop Robert Jefferson consecrated the new St. Paul's, Hazeldean on September 24, 1947. In 1980, Hazeldean became known as Kanata. A new parish hall was dedicated by Bishop Edwin K. Lackey in September of 1985. The 50th anniversary of the present church was celebrated in 1987.
