Administrative history
The congregation of St. Mary the Virgin dates from 1878 and a brick church existed at Green's Creek (later known as Gloucester) by 1884. Previous to the erection of the church, services were held sporadically in a local schoolhouse. St. Mary's was originally the second Chapel of Ease for St. Bartholomew's, Ottawa. The Bishop of Niagara consecrated St. Mary's Church and Burial Ground, Green's Creek on October 30, 1886. The church building was showing signs of neglect and decay by 1898 and improvements were made in the next three years. Repairs were made to the church throughout the 1950's and the 75th anniversary of St. Mary's was celebrated on October 10, 1954. Around 1975, the congregation outgrew the church building, so worship was once again in a local school where the congregation continues to meet. A rectory was purchased by 1980.
