        History

St. Joseph’s Academy, located at 210 Vansittart Avenue, was operated by the Sisters of St. Joseph’s of London. The teaching order came to Woodstock in 1913 and settled at a convent on Delatre Street before moving to their location on Vansittart Avenue in 1955. The academy building was built by Thomas “Carbide” Wilson in 1895 and was purchased by St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in 1955 by the pastor, Rev. Joseph Brisson. In 1974, St. Joseph’s Academy was closed and the remaining nuns were moved to the Rolph Street convent in Tillsonburg.
