Administrative history
In 1856, a site for a church in Portage-du-Fort was donated by the Usborne family. On May 19, 1856, the Rev. J.S. Sykes laid the cornerstone for St. George's Church. Bishop Francis Fulford of Montreal consecrated St. George's, Portage-du-Fort on August 1, 1858. The centennial of the church was celebrated in 1956. From 1978 to 1991, the parish co-operated pastorally with the United Church Pastoral Charge of Campbell's Bay (and Bryson), resulting in financial improvement to the parish. The 125th anniversary of the consecration was celebrated in 1983. Portage-du-Fort is part of the parish of Clarendon.
