        History

St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Brampton, formerly known as Brampton Presbyterian Church, was established in 1877 with the amalgamation of First Presbyterian Church (Brampton) and Knox Presbyterian Church (Brampton). The first Minister was Rev. James Pringle, who served from 1848 to 1887. Later the Derry West congregation would move to Brampton in 1886 to join with what had become Brampton Presbyterian Church. Following the amalgamation, the "Brick Church" on Church Street was enlarged and a gallery was built. The charge now included congregations at Derry West, Malton and Brampton. The present church building at 44 Church Street, was completed in 1881; a Christian Education wing was added after World War I, with a second floor added to this wing several years later. The original Knox Church building (also on Church Street) was sold in 1878 and the First Presbyterian Brick Church was sold to the School Board. In 1925 the congregation voted to stay with The Presbyterian Church in Canada, although the Minister and over a fifth of the members, moved to the United Church. In 1963, Brampton Presbyterian was formally renamed St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church.
