Administrative history

A Women’s Institute branch was first formed in Sparta in 1907 but lasted only 1 or 2 years. In the early 1920’s, the women of the Coles School Section formed a community service group named Sparta Sorosis (sorosis is Latin for sisterhood). On March 13, 1930, Sparta Sorosis formally became a branch of the Women’s Institute. The branch was disbanded on June 28, 2004.
