        Historique

The Saint Stephen’s Anglican Church Women (hereafter cited as the ACW) was formed in November of 1967 when four women’s groups banded together: the Women’s Auxiliary, which began in the 1870s under the leadership of Mrs. William Cook and which concerned itself with service, particularly in the missions fields; the Mothers Union, which looked after family life and the needs of mothers and young children; the Federated Women’s Church Year, which devoted itself to visiting and free-will offering; and the Chancel Guild, which represented all those who looked after the furnishings of the Sanctuary. Since its formation, the ACW has contributed to a wide variety of projects such as “Sleeping Children Around the World”, “Stop 103”, and “Kerry’s Place for Autistic Children”. This women’s group has also contributed significantly to the church’s existence through fundraising efforts and various social events. Saint Stephen’s Church, and subsequently the ACW, closed in September of 2008 due to a lack of funding and space.
