Administrative history
The Runnymede Lawn Bowling Club was founded on March 10, 1921 by Oscar A. Evans, a resident of Runnymede district of West Toronto. A prominent sporting and social centre of activity in the community until 1986, the initial undertaking set forward to operate a lawn bowling, curling, skating, and athletic club in the community took place in December of 1920. By the end of this year the Runnymede Lawn Bowling Club possessed the charter to operate, and formed one of the oldest organized clubs in the West Toronto region. Located at 22 Weatherwell Street, the club house was constructed by an architect who was active in the club and where members participated in mens and ladies' local, provincial and American competitions, often bringing trophies back to the club. The Runnymede Lawn Bowling Club also hosted social events often organized by women members, and attracted families with children as well as older members often associated with this type of sporting activity. The club ceased to operate in the fall of 1986 as a result of lack of funding and interest, and the property upon which the club house stood was sold to property developers.
