Notice biographique

The son of Nelson Bigham and Olive M. Rowell, Roy A. Bigham was born August 28th, 1905 in East Zorra Township. Throughout his working career he was employed as an office boy with The Daily Sentinel Review, and a ticket agent for Canadian National Railways, before joining The Ralston Purina Company in 1937, where he quickly rose to the position of Traffic Manager. Known as “Woodstock’s ambassador to the world”, during World War II, Mr. Bigham edited and published the weekly Whiz Bang newspaper for local men overseas. As a skilled athlete, he was active in the Whiz Bangs softball team, the badminton club, lawn bowling league, and was a member of the business and industrial alley bowling leagues as well as a life-long member of the Woodstock Family YMCA. Roy A. Bigham, died in December 1970 at the age of 65 years.

The records were created by Roy Bigham and donated to the Woodstock Museum before being transferred to the County of Oxford Archives in February 2012.

Portée et contenu

The fonds consist of 33 diaries written by Roy A. Bigham over the period of 1926-1970. Some diaries include such items as loose news clippings, letters, obituaries and photographs.

The fonds was acquired in February 2012 by the County of Oxford Archives from the Woodstock Museum.
