Biographical history

Ronald Dodds was born in England and raised in Mount Vernon, Washington. He attended both the University of British Columbia and the University of Washington for journalism. Dodds also worked with the British United Press prior to the Second World War before enlisting in the RCAF in 1940. He trained as an observer and instructed in Canada before going overseas. After the war, he worked for Canadian Press until he was appointed as the RCAF’s Director of Public Relations in Ottawa. He served with this capacity until joining their Historical Section in 1961 and later the Directorate of History and Heritage with DND. He retired in 1976 and eventually passed away on March 25th 1994 at the age of 81.

Scope and content

Fonds consists of nominal lists of Canadians in the British flying services during 1914-1918 from a variety sources. Nominal lists range from RFC [Royal Flying Corps] direct entrants, accepted candidates for the Military Wing of RFC, RFC sailings, RFC Overseas lists, and unidentified entrance lists.
