Administrative history
The TGH Department of Public Relations was responsible for organizing and managing public events and ceremonies; coordinating the Hospital’s fundraising campaigns, including designing and publishing brochures and displays, coordinating press coverage, and managing advertising efforts; publishing newsletters and other publications for distribution to TGH staff and the community-at-large; issuing press releases about significant events involving the TGH; and responding to public requests for information about Hospital services, facilities, policies and regulations.
For the greater part of its history, public relations work at the TGH was carried out by the chief executive officer and his staff. The first employee of the TGH specifically designated as being responsible for public relations was Miss MJ.P. Lundie, who served as Administrative Assistant and Public Relations Officer 1967-1969, and as Director of Public Relations 1970-October 1971. Following Miss Lundie’s retirement the work formerly done by the Director of Public Relations became the responsibility of a series of Administrative Residents. In 1981 Mr. D. Allen was hired as Director of Public Relations, serving as such until becoming (1986) Director of the Department of Public and Community Affairs of The Toronto Hospital.
