Administrative history

The Port Hope Evening Guide was established in 1831 under the name of the Telegraph. The newspaper was renamed Evening Guide in 1851 by William Furby. On January 30, 1970, the Guide printed the its last copy in Port Hope on the press in Port Hope. In 2009, the paper amalgamated with the Cobourg Daily Star and the Colborne Chronicle to become Northumberland Today. Most recently, the paper was purchased by Sunmedia.

Custodial history

Donated to the Port Hope Archives by T. Trevor, 2011. The printing plates and advertising blocks was received by the donor from Alice King (A.K.) Sculthorpe. Her brother Peter Schultz owned the Port Hope Evening Guide newspaper for a time.

Scope and content

Fonds consists of twenty-nine (29) engraved blocks used for printing by the Port Hope Evening Guides in the early through mid part of the 20th century.
