Biographical history
The Pegg family owned and operated the sawmill known as Dakota Mill from 1911-1979. William Thomas Pegg acquired the sawmill and 5 acres of property in 1911. He married Maud Truesdale in Hamilton on 14 April 1923. When William passed away on 2 September 1951, he left all of his property to Maud. She retained the property in her name until 29 January 1959 when it was sold to Leonard Pegg. Mr. Pegg continued to operate the water-powered mill to cut custom-ordered lumber. Leonard Pegg was the last known operator of the Dakota Mill. When he sold the property in 1978, he had a clause in the sale stipulating that the buildings were not to be torn down. In August of 1979, the mill was sold to a gentleman who intended to convert the building into a restaurant.
