    Administrative history

    The United Nations Observer Mission in Georgia (UNOMIG) was established in August 1993 to verify compliance with the ceasefire agreement between the Government of Georgia and the Abkhaz authorities in Georgia. UNOMIG's mandate was expanded following the signing by the parties of the 1994 Agreement on a Ceasefire and Separation of Forces.

    Administrative history

    The United Nations Mission of Observers in Tajikistan (UNMOT) was established in 1994 to monitor the ceasefire agreement between the Government of Tajikistan and the United Tajik Opposition. Following the signing by the parties of the 1997 general peace agreement, UNMOT's mandate was expanded to help monitor its implementation. The mission successfully accomplished the assigned tasks and on 15 May 2000 its mandate was terminated.

    Series consists of United Nations documents relating to the break up of the Soviet Union in 1992, the subsequent Soviet states of Chechnya, Georgia, Tajikistan, and Nagorno/Karabakh. Also includes documents relating to the United Nations Observer Mission in Georgia and the United Nations Mission of Observers in Tajikistan. Includes letters addressed to the President of the Security Council, notes by the President of the Security Council, reports of the Secretary-General, resolutions and news summaries. There are also newspaper clippings.
