Administrative history
The Parish of Bearbrook-Vars-Navan presently consists of three churches and formerly included one other. Crown land was granted for a church at Bearbrook in 1848 and the first wooden Holy Trinity Church was erected in the late 1850's. Captain Visser donated the site for the original wooden St. Mary's, Navan which was built by 1869. The first service in St. Andrew's, Vars was held in 1889 and the church was consecrated by Bishop Charles Hamilton of Niagara on May 28, 1890. The congregation of St. Paul's, Canaan dates to 1864 and in 1887, a wooden church was built. The church building was secularized in 1966 with the congregation joining Holy Trinity Church, Bearbrook.
