Administrative history
In 1948, the Ottawa Junior Board of Trade managed and produced its first Ottawa Winter Carnival held from February 11 to February 19, 1949. The Chairman of the Ottawa Winter Carnival Committee of the Ottawa Junior Board of Trade, William A. Huber (d. 1991), recorded the objectives, organization, and history of the Carnival in an album which subsequently won first prize in an awards contest sponsored by the Junior Chamber of Commerce of Canada.
Custodial history
The album remained in the possession of Mr. Huber's wife following his death in 1991.
Scope and content
Fonds consists of 6 cerlox notebooks bound together with the starting ribbon of the first International Dog Derby (held in 1932), with the first prize blue ribbon awarded in 1949 to the album, attached to the front cover. Notebooks document the evolution of the planning process and the actual events of the winter carnival as indicated through newspaper clippings, correspondence, photographs and memorabilia.
