    Administrative history

One of the oldest rowing clubs in North America, the Ottawa Rowing Club was organized in 1867 with Canada's first Prime Minister, Sir John A. Macdonald as the first president. Though interest in the club waxed and waned during the years, today there are junior, lightweight, heavyweight, and master competitive crews training daily.

    Custodial history

Mr. Bill Westwick, long-time sports editor of the Ottawa Journal, acquired the material at an unknown date, probably from David N. Gill, former Honorary President and Chairman, Board of Governors, of the Ottawa Rowing Club.

    Scope and content

Fonds consists of minutes, notices of meetings, and the constitution of the Ottawa Rowing Club (1954-1958), correspondence between officers of the club and David N. Gill (1955-58), 2 programs of the club's 8th and 9th annual regattas, and a newspaper clipping (1958) relating to some of the club's directors.
