    Founded in 1973, the Ontario Jewish Archives, Blankenstein Family Heritage Centre is a department of UJA Federation of Greater Toronto.

    Administrative structure

    The Ontario Jewish Archives is a department of the UJA Federation of Greater Toronto.

    Records management and collecting policies

    The OJA's mandate is to acquire, preserve and makes accessible the records that chronicle our province’s Jewish history. The collection documents organizations, businesses and individuals.

    Buildings

    The OJA is housed in the Lipa Green Centre on the Sherman Campus of UJA Federation. Our facilities consist of a dedicated research room, processing area and climate-controlled vault.

    Fonds

    The records of the OJA illustrate the vibrancy of the community from its earliest days to the present. This includes over 5,000 cubic feet of textual records; 60,000 historic photographs documenting Jewish life across Ontario; over 300 oral histories; over 300 films dating from the 1920s until the present; over 1,500 blueprints and architectural drawings created by Ontario's most notable Jewish architects; hundreds of artifacts; unpublished histories; and Jewish newspapers in Yiddish, Hebrew, and English.

    The OJA is open five days a week by appointment only.

    Monday to Thursday
    9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
    (research room closes at 4:30 p.m.)

    Friday hours vary by season

    Closed Jewish and statutory holidays.
