Administrative history

Established as the Ganaraska Region Archives in 1994 by the East Durham Historical Society and the Port Hope Branch of the A.C.O., and renamed the Port Hope Archives in 2005; the archives has been serving the Municipality of Port Hope for over 20 years. Supported by dedicated volunteers and generous members, the Archives provides access to archival materials related to Port Hope’s history.

Custodial history

Created by the Port Hope Archives during the process of undertaking the Our Memories: Downtown Port Hope Oral History Project, 2012-2015. The project ran from 2013-2014 as a way to capture the stories of current and former business owners in the downtown core of Port Hope.

Scope and content

File consists of a DVD including Ona Gardiner's "Our Memories: Downtown Port Hope" Oral History Project interview; and a paper copy of the interview transcript, 2013. The interview was edited and uploaded to YouTube with the following description: "In this video we interview Port Hope resident Ona Gardiner. She recalls various stories of her days as a switchboard operator and the "Great Depression" in historic downtown Port Hope, Ontario for the "Our Memories: Downtown Port Hope" Oral History Project."
