Histoire administrative
The Office of the Assistant Superintendent, Medical, preceded the Offices of the Assistant Director, Medical; Vice President, Ambulatory Care and Medical Affairs; and the Vice President, Medical Affairs, as the administrative office/administrator capable of conducting the medical management of the Toronto General Hospital.
When Dr. C.K. Clarke resigned in 1917 as Superintendent, he was replaced by a series of non-medical administrators. By 1919, with the appointment as Superintendent of Mr. C.J. Decker, it had become necessary to create a position for an administrator capable of conducting the medical management of the Hospital. In [1919?] Dr. E.A. Gray was appointed Assistant Superintendent, Medical, serving in this office until his resignation in December 1937. Dr. Gray was succeeded as Assistant Superintendent, Medical by Dr. F.A. Logan (January 1938-February 1942), Dr. C.B. Parker (February 1942-1947), Dr. J.E. Sharpe - serving simultaneously as TGH Superintendent (1947-1949), and Dr. H.S. Doyle (1949-June 1970).

Nom du producteur
Histoire administrative
The Office of the Medical Director succeeded the Office of the Assistant Director, Medical in conducting the medical management of the Hospital when Dr. H.S. Doyle was promoted to the new title in 1964. Dr. Doyle continued in this role until June 1970 when he was succeeded by Dr. D.M. Young.
It is likely that the Medical Director’s office continued with the medical administration of the Hospital until such time as the position of Vice President, Ambulatory Care and Medical Affairs was created (1974). This would have been during the years 1967-1973. It is unclear what the role of the Office of the Medical Director would have been 1974-1978.
Dr. D.M Young served as Medical Director from June 1970-February 1978, and after his retirement, the position of Medical Director no longer existed
