History

The Northern Times, Kapuskasing’s weekly newspaper, was founded by René and Olga Piché, in March 1961. On its silver anniversary in 1986, the Northern Times was "the largest communication media operating exclusively in the area". Sold in 1998, the weekly is now part of the Sun Media Corporation, a division of Québécor Media. The Northern Times is also responsible for the publication of a weekly called The Weekender.
