North York Horticultural Society
A large portion of the North York Horticultural Society’s papers are contained in five scrapbooks [1924-1990], organized by year. The first three scrapbooks were put together by Society Historian Marion Cecil in 1971/72 with annual additions thereafter. From 1990, annual accumulations were kept in files. For conservation purposes, all scrapbook material was removed from the original binders. The contents were then put into boxes by year, with the beginning and end of each original scrapbook indicated by a marker. From 1924 until World War Two, the annual files contain newspaper clippings copied by Ms. Cecil. The portions of the scrapbooks from 1945 to 1955 contain a few additional items, such as notices and financial statements. From 1954 onwards, they contain considerably more, including correspondence, flyers, notices, minutes and financial information. Separate archival boxes house photographs and published materials that were removed from the annual accumulations. Additional boxes contains material that was not a part of the annual accumulations, such as financial information, incorporation materials, a scrapbook [1982-1985] and executive files [1990-2003].
