    The North Hastings Teachers' Institute was formed in the late nineteenth century as a means of providing a forum for teachers to discuss professional issues in the area surrounding Bancroft, Ontario, until it was eliminated with the passage of the Education Act of 1974.

    Custodial history

    Donor purchased volumes from a fine books dealer at St. Lawrence Market, Toronto.

    Scope and content

    Fonds consists of two minute books created by the North Hastings Teachers' Institute.

    The minute books provide detailed information pertaining to curriculum development. The minutes also document discussions relating to various teachers' experiences such as dealing with behavioural problems and teaching in one room school houses.

    Fonds also consists of newspaper clippings, a programme for the 1928 convention, a programme for the 1929 convention, and account details of expenses.
