CA ON00420 GVI · Collection · 1940-1971

Collection consists of photographs and textual records created by the RCAF in the process of inventorying its fleet of ground vehicles. The technical data sheets provide detailed descriptions of the make, model and specifications of the required parts for each vehicle, including engines, tires, and batteries. Additional equipment requirements are also noted on the sheets. The photographs show the different vehicles from 3/4 view of left and right sides. The vehicles are grouped by function (e.g. snow
removal, medical, tow trucks etc.) with each vehicle type having its own code within that class of vehicle and different models further coded (e.g. L20-D57-1705 - where L represents the function, 20 the number of variation, D57 the type and 1705 the specific vehicle model). Files were originally housed in binders but have now been moved to folders and boxed, each group being arranged alphabetically based on the original binder titles.
